A Matter of Discretion
In late Victorian London, Thomas Grey survives by being useful, quiet, and easily overlooked.
From behind the walls of a fashionable séance, and in the private spaces of its sitters, he listens, observes, and gathers the secrets that allow a celebrated medium to convince the wealthy that the dead still speak. It is dangerous work, but it keeps him fed.
Henry Ashcroft comes to the séance with questions. His father had begun to suspect fraud before his death, and Henry intends to uncover the truth.
He does not expect to find it in Thomas.
As Henry pushes further into the deception, Thomas becomes both his greatest asset and his greatest risk. What begins as curiosity deepens into something neither boy can afford: trust, and something dangerously close to it.
Together, they discover they have something far more valuable than answers.
In a city built on reputation, silence, and secrets, there are those who will pay dearly for problems to disappear.
Thomas knows how to find what others miss.
Henry knows how to be welcomed where others are merely tolerated.
What they begin is small. Quiet. Necessary.
And far more dangerous than either of them understands.
